Pixelay alternative: measure instead of overlay

Pixelay and Pixel Perfect solve the same problem, checking that the website matches the Figma design, in two different ways. Here’s how they differ, with data from their website.

The difference in one sentence

Pixelay puts your design over the page so you can see where things don’t line up. Its own website describes it as “a visual review workflow, not an automatic pass/fail test.”

Pixel Perfect matches each Figma layer with its element on the page and tells you what changed and by how much: “the heading is 44 px and 48 in Figma.”

When Pixelay is a better fit

  • If you want to stay inside Figma and Chrome, without installing an app.
  • If what you want is to see the overlay with transparency and decide yourself what’s wrong.
  • If your team already uses other Hypermatic plugins.

When Pixel Perfect is a better fit

  • If you need the exact value to fix the code, not just see that something doesn’t line up.
  • If you check desktop, tablet and mobile of the same frame at once.
  • If differences have to end up in a Jira ticket with crops.
  • If you want to know whether the error comes from the library component or from that screen.
